What’s so good about red fruit & veg?

Did you know red-colored fruits and veggies are powerhouse foods? Not only are they vibrant and delicious, but they’re also full of antioxidants and essential nutrients. Here’s why you should be eating more reds for your health, especially if you’re thinking about long-term wellness!

1️⃣ Lycopene: Anti-Inflammatory
Lycopene, the antioxidant that gives tomatoes, watermelon, and pink grapefruit their bright hue, has been shown to help fight inflammation, which is key in managing and preventing chronic conditions like heart disease and certain cancers. Studies suggest it’s particularly beneficial for prostate health, too!

2️⃣ Anthocyanins: Brain Protection
The red and purple colours in fruits like cherries, red grapes, and cranberries come from anthocyanins — these antioxidants are not only anti-inflammatory but also help improve brain function. Regularly consuming them may help reduce the risk of cognitive decline and improve memory.

3️⃣ Vitamin C: Immune System Boosting
Strawberries, red peppers, and guava are bursting with vitamin C, which is essential for a strong immune system. Vitamin C is also crucial for collagen production, keeping your skin looking young and vibrant, while also protecting cells from damage.

4️⃣ Fiber & Heart Health
Red fruits like apples and veggies like red cabbage are high in fibre. Fibre helps lower cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar levels, and support gut health — all of which are crucial in preventing chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes.

5️⃣ Potassium: Blood Pressure Regulation
Bananas aren’t the only potassium-rich food! Red veg like tomatoes and red potatoes contain high levels of potassium, which helps balance sodium levels, reducing blood pressure and supporting heart health.
